Overview on Apex Heartbeat

This course covers the assessment of the apex heartbeat as part of the cardiovascular examination of a patient. Students will learn the anatomical location of the apex beat, how to correctly position the patient, the use of the stethoscope for auscultation, how to count and characterise the apex beat, and how to document and report findings accurately. This skill is fundamental to clinical nursing assessment.
