This course covers the principles and practice of barrier nursing — the specialized care provided to patients with infectious diseases to prevent the spread of infection to other patients and healthcare workers. Students will learn how to set up and maintain a barrier area, the correct use of protective clothing including gowns and masks, and the strict aseptic principles that govern all care within the barrier. This is an essential infection control competency.
